Headphone output under linux

Hello guys!

First sorry for the bad english

Today i installed the ubuntu 9.04 to my FZ31-M and i have a great problem when I try to use the headphone output that isn't working, but the vaio's speakers is working.

So if you can help me please write down your instructions.

Hi Nathe Fellow,

First can you check whether the computer is recognising the headphones by going to the bottom right of the screen and right clicking the volume symbol then playback devices.

Also has the laptop installed the drivers for them?

Seems a long process. I'm sure there must be an easier way than that but i have never had any so i wouldn't know

Yeah I found the solution for this problem

1. step: You should run the terminal
2. step: sudo -s
3. step: you should go here: /etc/modprobe.d/
4. step: type editor
5. step: ctrl+r
6. step: ctrl+t
7. step: you should search the alsa-base.conf if you found press enter
8. step: add this line (under the options lines):
options snd-hda-intel model=vaio position_fix=0
9. step: ctrl+x and then press y
10. step: ctrl+t
11. step: you should search the alsa-base.conf if you found press enter and then y
12. reboot your system

This is very very easy and work!

Hi Nathe, this seems like a strange workaround,
normally the jack should be recognized by system automaticly even on the Vaio.

Since 8.10 Ubuntu is using Pulseaudio as it's main sound system, alsa only persists as a backward compability (like OSS)

You're maybe talking about the following bug report:
