Dear Sony
i currently have the Sony XZ premium and now the Xperia 1.
With the Xz premium running in 4k I can stream 4k films and tv programs that I've bought or come free and I get notification at the bottom that it is 4k uhd
with the Xperia 1 I get none of this. 4k films I've bought only stream in 1080p.
Was the Xperia 1 tested correctly on the mobile apps mentionedbefore being released to consumers?
I bought this phone as you said I can watch movies in 4k 21:9 ratio. But they don't
I would like to why.?The excuse I've had is that not all apps support the 4k features and performance of the Xperia 1. I understand that but when the 3 main video apps mentioned allow you to download or stream 4k content (in 21:9 ratio) I would expect you to have tested to make sure it works as advertised.
It does work in 4k for movies, but for Netflix, etc, you will have to badger them to add it for the Xperia 1, as they tend not to add phones much, and seem to be way behind adding modern flagships onto the list.
Also try going into you account on pc, going to playback settings and setting it on its highest settings, then log out.
Then on the phone, do the same, and check its saved, and try again.
Also you have to have over 25Mbps for UltraHD playback, and remember to adjust mobile data playback as well, if you want.
But generally badger them every day or 2 with messages to add the phone to the list.

Okay so I'll explain what has happened. Our Prime video app supports 4K in the devices which supported Oreo android version. As we have released updates to the respected devices, the device manufacturers have set limitation on quality of video streaming from the Prime video app. That is the reason you are only able to get the maximum till 1080p
According to Amazon prime Support it is Sony themselves who are limting the 4k streaming to 1080p on the Xperia 1
More likely their app, doesn't support it, on devices which are "new".
There has to be a supported phone list, like Netflix has, and much badgering should help.
