3 things I hate about my A1 for video

  1. When using an external monitor / recorder I do not have a way to show ONLY the settings on the touch screen
  2. Animal / Bird autofocus completely missing in video - manual is misleading to say the least the animal / bird options should be greyed out
  3. Tracking in video only possible with the LCD not on the EVF - this can get easily sorted and works on the A7R5

I think those could be rectified with software upgrades however on 1 I have already been told it is not possible full stop....

Hey @interceptor121, make sure that your camera is running on the latest software version from here

You can use the Face/Eye Prior. in AF (still image/movie) from here

You can change the HDMI Info. Display settings by following the steps specified here

When shooting with the viewfinder, you can use the touch pad to select a subject you want to track, as specified here and here

I hope this helps.

Hi Thanks for your reply

1. I am recording the video I do not want the settings on the screen. I want the settings on the LCD without the image that I do not need as I have it on the monitor.

This is an example from my panasonic camera.

The recorder has a clean HDMI signal no settings. The LCD has all the settings and with the touch i can change them without navigating the menu.

The A1 has a similar screen called viewfinder view in photo mode but this is not available in movie mode. I do not need to see the entire image on the LCD as I have it on the monitor I only need the settings to show so I can change them without pressing buttons

2. I am using autofocus for animals. As there is no face to be detected and the camera does not detect eyes in video in effect it detects nothing. You may as well remove the options from the menu it makes no difference. Face/Eye only works for human the manual is misleading as there is no autofocus in video for animals and birds so those options should either work or be removed

3. I do not want to use the LCD as this is disabled when I am on the field and use the EVF or when I have the camera in an underwater housing. What is required is to activate tracking using the focus point either through the shutter or a button. I am aware that many users have complained about this and yet two years after the camera has been release there is no solution. This is extremely disappointing as due to the fact in movie mode animal and bird autofocus does not work you have no option to track if you do not touch the screen. I was out today at 2 C and frequently am out subzero I wear gloves and my face is on the LCD that is steaming. Touching the screen is really not the way forward for a professional camera sorry

Thank you very much

I have already a few tickets open with support. I am looking for a bit more weight to make things happen

Frankly I am astonished that such fine camera is limited by what look just oversights and lack of attention to detail
