A7 IV Freezing/Locking up?

Since receiving my A7 IV just over a month ago I have been experiencing weird and random locking up/Freezing issues.

Whilst focusing the camera will just stop doing anything, to the point that I have to remove the battery in order for it to reset itself, also I have found when turning the camera off that it doesn't actually switch off but remains on no matter if the switch is in the off or on position.

Lens used are Tokina 85mm 1.8 and Tamron 70-180 2.8

Any advice would be a appreciated as this is my first experience in the mirrorless market

I've only just had my A7IV bodies delivered so haven't experience of this issue but I would like to know if it was discovered what the cause was - and if it's avoidable? Thanks.

Any further detail on how this is occurring for people? Or does anyone have an update?

This sounds similar to what I’ve experienced with my a7iv - https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/66304681

It occasionally seems to stop responding to a half shutter button press and then suddenly wakes up and processes it. Not sure if is down to heat, eye focus kicking in, sd card overheating, software buffer filling up or what. I’m using the kit lens that came with the camera and I can reproduce the issue by pressing to half shutter and releasing around 30-50 times in a row. I’ve also had it occur during a shoot, but it always seems to recover if I just give it a moment - never requires me to pull the battery or switch off.

This looks to be a software glitch rather than a hardware issue, which means that it might be resolved with a future update, hopefully it gets sorted soon and keep us updated, cheers.

I agree that it sounds software related but I’m surprised that there doesn’t seem to be that many people posting about it. Based on that I’ve made the decision to exchange mine - Amazon Uk have been great and are handling the swap.

Hopefully you get to enjoy the new one without any issues at all buddy. Also their might be some scattered reports here and there, just not on the community forums. I heard that the Reddit threads are pretty popular.

Thank you.

Yeh I found issues that sound very similar but not necessarily exactly the same. Whilst in the exchange window I didn’t want to risk there being a real issue.

Unfortunately Amazon have collected the camera but don’t have a replacement available until the end of August, but still I feel it was the right decision.

Yea I would also say so if your work wouldn't get hindered by not having the model for that period if you can use another one that's perfect, especially getting a fresh one. Sucks that you're gonna have to wait for a bit though.
