A7 Mk II, ‘Camera Error’ No image

Hi all,

I’m hoping for some help, I’m currently abroad and will be for the foreseeable, Unfortunatly my A7 mkii died on me a couple of weeks ago after about 4 months of owning it, From what I have been told Sony won’t repair the camera until I return to the europe/the UK which is a big problem for me. I’m hoping some other A7 users might have experienced the same issue/situation and might be able to share some wisdom.

Here is my best discription of this issue:

When the error first appeared the camera was in use, I had taken a couple of photos when the viewfinder/screen went blank, that is to say all the functions and menu’s etc remained as normal but the image disapered. On trying to trigger the camera it initiated the cycle but didn’t  complete, coming up with a black screen and error. “Camera Error. Turn off then on.” On powering off the camera, nothing happens and the error remains until you physically remove the battery from the camera.

When re-powering the camera, the menus still work as normal but the screen remains black with no picture. If you try to take a picture the same error repeats.

I have tried all all the resets, the only thing that has worked was leaving the battery out for 48hours and then putting it back in. The image returns, you can take one or two photos before the same error returns.

The camera shop I purchased it from have given me the basic checks/trouble shooting, but it’s all pointing towards a Sony repair. The only issue is that I’m now in Canada and the camera needs to be in Europe for warranty repair. Really difficult situation and super frustrating.

Any help/views would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Tom

Hi t_atkin

I don't think there's much you can try to do by yourself at this point. It seems the camera needs to be inspected by a professional.

If you want that done under warranty, you have to wait until you're back in the EU.

Thanks @Win_88 That’s what I have done. Fingers crossed for a fast turn turnaround.

I think Sony need to have a hard look at their service support, it’s pretty disappointing from a big global company.
