2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

 

 

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. 2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

 

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. 4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

 

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

SDCEGavster - So I read that list as today for the app that generates Sony extra subscription based revenue and October 18th for everything that doesn't carry additional subscription costs.

 

I'm relatively lucky in that my set is doing what I need virtually trouble free, but this isn't doing much for my faith in Sony's customer service dept.

Hmmm.. I know its easy to be cynical, and this has indeed fast become a public relations disaster for Sony Customer Service... I am a little lost for words...  

 

I too am lucky that I can use my set to do what it should...

Seems strange that link posted has been updated to October for some things when youview still stays summer 2015, when we are now in autumn,  you would of thought they would of changed that to autumn or winter. What calendar is sony using?

SONY use their own calendar, it pre-dates the Mayan calendar, where the world ends in 2012! So they assumed the planet would be red hot all year round, meaning Summer!

The update service is unavailable in Denmark on both the KDL and KD sets,
maybe they are preparing the severs for a new update?

Regarding all your problems, here in Denmark I haven't seen the problem
with Guide not showing info on cable, terrestrial or satellite. And I work
in Sony Center.. But HDMI issues is currently only spotted on the KD models
(4K)

And people scared Sony won't fix the issues or missing features .. It was
the EXACT same thing with the 2013 models, they didn't get twin-tuner, PiP
or HDD recording until late October for example. Just but your time and
faith in they'll fix it, cause they will. :slight_smile:

OK, so Sony prioritises the features that make more money, annoying but predicatable.

 

I don't care about the features right now, I care about the bugfixes. If PlayStation Video is still coming, it had better come with all of the bugfixes.

 

 

Interestingly I just got this reply (finally) to some detailed questions I asked about YouView/twin tuner. This was before they or What HiFi published any information about how it will work. Laughably, none of the links work but it suggests that they have three additional FAQ items to publish.

 

2. Can the W series TVs record one live terrestrial broadcast whilst recording another from a different multiplex (this would require two tuners)?
