I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.
This is good news.
However, I'm still interested to see how HDD recording will work - If as the disclaimer states it can't be used if Youview is enabled, what source will it be able to record from?
I think it's poor wording and that it means is that you can't record catch up (e.g. iPlayer) to the HDD. It just hasn't specified what YouView functionality it means.
Hi guys,
Quick q about YouView - Do you need an arial connected to the TV or can you just connect the TV to wifi to use the software?
Hi, new here!
55x8508c with updated firmware. I have a problem with my sat favorites lists. I'm not able to scroll along the lists because tv just uses some random order and does'nt even present all the channels in the list. With previous firmware it even went out oft he lists to the global one. That was solved not the correct zapping.
Also have problems when tunning sat channels, the typical is that the channel comes up then stops and then comes again after a couple of seconds and then it stays tunned.
With this favorites issues the only solution to scroll along lists is to go to the "discover" botton each time I want to tune the next or previous one.
You will need an aerial connevtion and internet as well for catchup services.
No HDD recording via YouView. HDD recording will be possible using the current EPG (guide). You will need to exit out of Youview to do this. But HDD recording functions will not be added until later on in the year unfortunately.
Dear Sony Customer,
Sony and YouView are pleased to announce that from 8am on Wednesday 4th November the YouView service will be available on Sony BRAVIA 2015 Televisions making BBC iPlayer, All 4, ITV Player and Demand 5 available to all Android connected television sets.
For more information, please visit the latest announcement on our support site.
We thank you for your patience and hope you enjoy watching YouView on Sony’s Android TV in the very near future.
Thanks and kind regards,
Sony Europe
So HDD recording Is possible, you just have to use the DTV epg. Slowly but surely we're getting there. Any mention of PIP?
My setup is astra 19.2 and hotbird 13.
No need internet for that, but there is anyway.
The problem is just at the level of the zapping of the favoriste lists not being correct, it misses channels and enter some kind of strange loop going continuously to a particular channel after going for a couple of random ones not necesserely the next one in the list.
Anyone with this kind of bug? factory reset does'nt help.
Since the update on my hdmi channels the screen mirroring is grayed out and I'm not able to select that channel , I can find the app and open that but it's now a total pig to use screen mirroring it used to work fine. I have to open the app about 3 times for my device to find the tv, the tv doesn't seem to be putting out the WiFi direct as it should.
Could someone check if their screen mirroring channel is now grayed out. Even on the home screen where it shows all my other hdmi channels it's gone from there as well. Just the app remains.
@Anonymous Thanks for the update information.
Will YouView use a different BBC iPlayer to the one we currently have? The current one keeps freezing and requiring a power cycle to fix - I've not reported it before in the belief that it was probably a stand-in until YouView was ready. If that's not the case you probably need to know!
