2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

Thanks for the information Nico! Will report back once the update has been installed.

Hey all,

New user here and I just wanted to create an account mainly because I have just bought a 42W755C Android TV.

I've read through most pages here and I'm not having any issues with my TV? Its a good thing of course but it seems many of you are, apart from the lengthy start up process its fine.

Just now trying to find some good picture setup settings, also I spoke to Sony this morning and they are saying the big summer update with YouView etc will be in August.

Cheers

Bryan

Has anyone worked out how to change display settings for apps yet? As per my previous post, changing them for the inputs (HDMI, Digital, etc.) is straightforward, but I still can't see a way to change them for the default apps display.

I watch mostly Plex, Netflix and Amazon Prime and the default settings have way too much contrast.

Anyone?

Just do as usual, but IF the menu doesnt pop up, you need to powercycle your tv. Then it'll work (done it a few times myself)

Menu pops up fine every time, but going to Settings > Display, only changes settings for the last selected external input, (one of the HDMIs or Digital, Satellite, etc.). Selecting an app on the Home screen, like Netflix or Plex, always reverts the setting back to "Standard"...

As an aside, rtings.com have done reviews on the x850c & x830c. They get the TVs professionally calibrated and post the settings used.

I have used their settings, with only the brightness changed a little to suit my typicall viewing & I must say the settings make a decent bluray / Netflix 4k look amazing.

One thing to note with inputting the settings is that when you get to the advanced colour settings and you input the 10 point settings, you have to go through 1-10 and put the settings shown in individually.

I've successfully set the picture settings for Apps by accessing the settings through the Action Menu while in an App. Any picture settings I've set have been persistent. Note the same settings seem to apply to all Apps.

Are you really changing trough action menu-picture when you're in ex netflix?
Your problem seems weird

Just updated, menu seems more snappy - but still room for improvement!

I'll check with 5.1 through ARC later

EDIT :: Netflix still only support stereo...

The menu's are a little faster (lets see if thats still the case in 1 or 2 days), still no 5.1 sound from netflix or other apps 😞 And when playing Digital TV with Dolby, sound drops every couple of seconds (HDMI ARC).
