2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

Hi Nibor and everyone else,

We do what we can and the engineers are working tirelessly day and night to solve the existing issues.

As always in life things can go wrong in last minute avoiding something to happen. I really understand your disapointment but please rest assured that we're working very hard to fix things soon.

@Nibor99I will forward your contact details and check why the engineer hasn't been visiting you.

Cheers

Peter

Hi Peter,

What specifically is causing the delays?  Is there a particular challenge around integrating a given feature or fixing a given bug, for example?

Hi Peter,

As you're here you might be able to help me. I've contacted support via email but never got a reply.

I would like to know if the new HDMI Signal Format - Enhanced feature will be added with the next firmware update for KD43X8305CBU?

This would sort out the 4:4:4 chroma sub sampling issue when used with a PC.

The US model got this feature in firmware version PKG2.463.0010NAB.

This is sort of a deal breaker for me with this TV as I use it as a monitor, So I would like any info I can get on this please.

Thanks!

That's a very good question @MrLizard has asked? A fair opportunity for SONY to start some dialog and have clear, transparent communication  with us... do you think that is possible @Peter_S.?

Hello everyone,

Unfortunately I don't have any exact details about the issue. What I know is that during final testing on Sunday evening an error was spotted that avoided the release of the UK firmware. Where and in which application this error happened hasn't been released.

@Brigante01 as far as I know this topic is on the table but I don't have any information if this will be released within the next firmware or later.

Cheers

Peter

@Peter_S. thanks for taking the time to respond. I really hope it will be included in the next update. It would make the PC experience so much better and make this model the perfect large 4K monitor.

Peter,

Many thanks for following up the Sony engineer visit issue - I shall look forward to the results of your enquiries.

I know Sony will never admit it, but these Android TVs were released onto the market in a not fit for purpose condition. I would be very surprised if legal action isn't taken by customers. Sony need to get their act together and compensate those customers who have been badly let down. It doesn't affect me because I returned mine and got a full refund.

Peter, with all due respect, some of these things should have been fixed prior to the products release date. This is not last minute by any stretch of the imagination. As it stands, the product has been mis-sold.

I'm very disappointed by the delay. Even worse I don't know if the main issues affecting me are likely to be fixed in the release or at all.

Do you know, or are you able to find out whether the lip-sync issues being fixed in this firmware correct the problems we're seeing using the TV's own speakers? The only reference I've seen is to HDMI sound lag.

A good way to reproduce on a KD55X9305 which hasn't been rebooted in the last 24 hours, fire up Netflix and try and watch Michael McIntyre at the O2. He's a fast talker and the camera is full on him...the lips and the sound are doing completely different things.

We tried to watch something on BBC iPlayer the other day. It was impossibe to use. The response was so slow that by the time the screen registered the remote-press we'd already given up waiting and pressed a few more times ... it was totally unusable as we couldn't navigate.

It's good that you came back to this thread...but more information would be better.

Even better than that would be a bug tracker we could contribute to and see progress.
