Connecting Bose Soundbar to KDL-46HX823

Hi - I have connected a Bose soundbar to my Sony KDL-46HX823 using the optical cable connection.

Sound on any HD channel is great.

There is NO sound on any other channel that is NOT HD.

I cant use the std Audio Out on the TV 'cos the connector is not compatible with the Bose cable.

Can anyone suggest how to get sound down the Optical spout for non-HD channels?
