New 55a90j basic settings

Hi I've just bought a new 55a90j and as I'm older I'm not very comfortable with altering loads of settings.
I have sky q and a Sony bdv7200 surround system attached via hdmi to the TV.
I have netflix and Disney apps.

I have two questions

1/ Out of the box should I need to alter much , or should the TV automatically upscale to 4k the likes of the Blu-ray or from sky HD
The only bits I really understand are the colour, brightness and contrast which I've lowered in standard as they were a bit to high, but the rest of the settings could be in a foreign language, so I'd rather not touch them if I can.

If anyone has a basic settings guide to enhance the out of the box experience without worrying about gaming, just enjoying TV and films in hd or 4k.

2/ Also I've noticed that youview has lip sync issues , has anyone else noticed that, is there a fix.

Thanks

1. Yes, it will upscale automatically.

Here is a good article on recommended settings, from a reputable and competent source. You could use their recommendations for all the settings that are Double Dutch to you, and try what they say for colour, brightness and contrast, but if you prefer your initial choices for these values, then go back to them - it’s your TV after all.

2. We’re taking this step by step in your other thread, so let’s keep doing that.

Thank you and good idea to keep them separate. I'm 56 but might aswell be 96 trying to understand the options available.

Will have a go at that link you added

I’m right in the middle of that age range you mention, but I’ve been around AV for a long time, ever since I wired an external speaker into a black and white TV. No audio out sockets in those days, and the internal speaker was floating at 100v, which I had to deal with. There were seagulls behind Sir Francis Chichester as he arrived back, though I don’t know if anybody else heard them.

Can’t work Facebook or Twitter though 😛

Hi @Dairbear

I am all for a simple life (in my 70s). My approach for the last few decades is to set my Sony TVs to default Standard. The result is the all my Sony TVs appear the same (current models XR-55A55K & KD-43X89J). I know some people like to “fiddle” and some pay hundreds of pounds to “calibrate” their TVs. In my opinion none of this matters as our eyes get used to any settings and it becomes the norm in any case. 👀

I should change my user name, it was SonyUser30Yrs in 2012 when I joined the community. It should be SonyUser40Yrs now 🤣

@royabrown2   What is Facebook or Twitter?

Edit: One thing I should have mentioned is by simply using default Standard I can reset my TVs anytime without worrying about having to set it up again.

Thanks for that , I am using standard like yourself  and all I've tweaked is brightness down from 50 to 40

Colour down from 55 to 50

Contrast down from 90 to 80

As I can't understand why you would want really fake vivid colours.

I just wondered if I was missing anything by only adjusting those.

On the earlier post a link was given to settings, does that mean I could go to custom and tweak as per that and if I didn't like it, just click back to standard.
