New Bravia TV

We lack much knowledge about what we are doing but we have managed to set up our new TV on WiFi but we cannot get it to connect with our freesat box. We checked and the free sat works on the old set. Have we be sold the wrong tv or can any one suggest what we might be doing wrong?

Hi @TVproblems   So we can help you, would you please let us know the full model number of your TV (it will start with KD) and the make and model number of your freesat box.

That’s not an Android TV, it’s Linux, so you should be in the Other TVs section, not here. But we will stretch a point for you....

According to the spec of the TV, it has 2 HDMI inputs and a SCART.

And it’s a 2017 TV; did you buy it new, or is it secondhand?

But let’s assume, either way, that it’s working OK.

It is vanishingly unlikely that your Freesat box hasn’t got at least one of these output options, though we won’t be able to tell you for sure until you tell us the make and model of your box.

[EDIT: OK, now we know what it is, yes it has both HDMI Out and SCART Out]

As the Freesat box has HDMI Out, it’s best connected with an HDMI cable, if you have one or can get one, to either of the two HDMI Ins on the TV. It doesn’t matter which, though I’d use HDMI 2, and reserve HDMI 1, which has ARC, for a soundbar or home cinema system.

But if you only have a SCART cable, connect it with that to the SCART In on the TV. For now.

Then turn on the Freesat box.

The TV may switch automatically to that input, or you may have to press the top left button on the TV remote one or more times until it is on the same source as the Freesat box is plugged into.

When you see the picture from the Freesat box, you know you’re there.

Enjoy.....

We bought the TV new fron Curry’s yesterday. Rather putout to find it is a two year old modal! We have connected it to the  HDMI sockets, tried both 1 and 2 and it just comes up with a message saying no signal detected. We have checked the freesat in our old tv and it works perfectly.

Try the SCART input, if you have a cable handy, just for test purposes.

Did you use HDMI on your previous TV? Same HDMI cable?

Do you have to switch HDMI on, on the Bush?

We used it on our old tv, as I said we have just reconnected it all to the old one and the freesat worked fine, we checked the box was switched on when we tried to programme the new tv. Not sure if we have the right cable to use the scart socket.

Have you got any other HDMI devices you can try on the TV, such as a DVD or BluRay player?

Failing that, I think you need to get Curry’s involved, to check if the TV is working properly at all.
