Whilst watching standard tv, the tv shows full screen, then some adverts are then shown in wide screen format, the next advert full screen and so on.
The problem is worse watching you tube, with the tv changing from wide to full during the same film, it appears every time the film changes its view the screen changes.
My previous sony handled the same ads and you tube and never changed its screen size. Am I missing something quite obvious here, I have changed a few things in home/settings screen ratios, but nothing seems to work
my tv is a KD 55AG8. thanks for any help guys.

Screen
Makes any no difference.
Star wars is being shown ITV as i write. The TV shows the film with large
black borders. The only way I can get rid of the borders is to switch to
ZOOM, and then suffer tops of heads missing, legs cut short, and some words
have letters missing.
My previous Bravia handled Everything by filling the panel, I am watching
the same channels yet this AG8 crops the panel.
Very poor for a Sony
Freeview programmes soaps documentarys and you tube are ok, they are full
panel. The adverts are shown with black borders. And of course Films.
Thanks for the help, appreciated

I believe that almost all movies are made with either horizontal or vertical borders (bars) depending on the director's vision, it's not something specific to your TV, I have the same thing when using my phone, laptop and TV as well, even in the cinema. It's just a fact of the way the content is shot, processed and then presented to you, the same is true for the ads and Youtube videos.

What bothered me was, I have unplugged a Bravia KDL 46W905A, which was 7
years old and whatever the format the adverts YouTube freeview programmes
was filmed in, it was delivered to my old tv in a way that filled the
panel. Not one you tube vid, advert, or freeview programme had black
borders.
So I was baffled as to why the latest offering from sony should give me
these black borders on a daily basis. Weird

Change auto display area to on/Auto

randomly in ONE video. Surely they dont swap and change formats whilst
filming from one outdoor location. My previous Bravia 7 years old and now
sadly passed away never had this issue. Everything youtube, adds freeview
(except very old B/W films) just filled the panel. Very strange. Thanks
again guys for the replies.
