Since they use the same technology as audio speakers, yes, they can be run in.
But since they are tiny compared with audio speakers, and in tiny enclosures designed more for space saving than for optimum sound usually, and are expected to get full range, or at least maybe 12kHz down to 80 Hz, the laws of physics limit how well they can perform. (Headphones can do it at these sort of sizes, but they are front loaded and close-coupled by and to your ear canals, which TV speakers in free air are not).
So yes, the speakers may well run in, but the gains will be infinitesimal, if you can hear them at all; if you are not satisfied with the sound you are getting, you will need to invest in, at the very least an add-on subwoofer.
But a sound bar or sound base, or even a full-blown 5.1 audio system, will suit you better. Once they are run in, of course.
