XH92 loss of 5.1 passthrough after v6.0384 firmware update

I experienced a few problems after the v6.0384 software update a few weeks ago. The TV would restart itself about 3 times a day. This seems to be resolved with the help of settings changes suggested by Sony support.

I still have some sound problems though. Three times since the software update, the TV has stopped passing through 5.1 audio to my Marantz SR6008 receiver. It only seems to be sending a stereo output. Settings appear unchanged. Carrying out a factory data reset restores the 5.1 passthrough but obviously I can't be doing a factory reset every 5 days and the TV is less than two months old. The receiver is connected to HDMI 3 eARC.

The other passthrough problem is that I'm getting 0.5 second sound dropouts. They all seem random in frequency, sometimes twice an hour, sometimes 20 times an hour, sometimes less. I think this issue may have been there before the v6.0384 software update but can't be sure.

Any Ideas?  Thanks.

Hi vendee,

Please disable eARC and check if it solves the issue.

Cheers

Thanks Peter, unfortunately when I went into settings, I found that eARC on HDMI 3 was already disabled. Sorry for the incorrect information on my original post.

Hi vendee,

Could you check to see if you have the TuneIn app installed, and remove it if you do?

Hi JD, thanks for that. I've just checked and it doesn't look like Tuneln is installed on my TV.

Can you try switching the HDMI signal format around? (use Standard if it was set to Enhanced and vice-versa)

Thanks again. I have tried both. I still get the sound stutters but I haven't experienced the loss of 5.1 output requiring a factory reset for about a week now. I've got an optical cable. I might connect it and run the audio through that to see if the stutter is still there although I would prefer to keep using HDMI for sound.

Try clearing the cached data (under Device Preferences - Storage - Internal Shared Storage - Cached data) then hold the power button for ~5 sec to restart it.

Thanks again JD but no luck. I think the TV is going to have to go back because there are lots of issues with it now including horizontal screen flickering which seems to be getting worse.

For what it's worth, Sony are apparently working on a software update to fix most of these issues. I can't imagine that taking too long as this is a big release for Sony and they surely want to make things right ASAP.
