Rescue holiday movie from flash memory

A shot with a water canon on salty ocean from my son destroyed my Sony HDR-CX105 (http://www.sony.co.uk/product/cam-high-definition-on-memory-stick/hdrcx105es.ceh/features#tab).

It startet with lines on the touchscreen, blinkijng and then, nothing. I have tried anything, but the camera is dead.  USB connection isn't working either.

I was planning on buying a new camera this year, so the hardware isn't that important. The sad thing is the holidaymovie, recorded on the internal flash HD. Is there a way to open the camera and get access to the files?

Hello joebrenden - Welcome to the Sony Forums

As you can probably appreciate, this task will be made slightly more complicated by the fact that the memory is internal. Within the camera, I don't think that the drive itself would be removable if you were able to dismantle the product as it is designed to be an integral part of the hardware as opposed to a seperate device.

Are you able to get the camera to charge i.e. when connecting to the mains, is there any sign of life whatsoever from the camera? If so, first of all I would advise you to try charging it for a while and then connecting it to a computer to see if there is any indication that the computer can see that there is an external drive present. The reason for this is that there are various programs that can be downloaded to scan faulty flash drives (Google : Flash Recovery Software) which may be able to extract the raw data from the camera. If you are able to recover this information, you could then convert it to a common file format such as .avi. If you are able to get this information from the camera, let me know the file format of the raw data files and I will recommend a piece of software to convert them.

Thanks,

Simon
