viewing videos through 'my pictures'

recently bought a HDR-CX10 camcorder.     Took some videos and downloaded them onto my laptop but i cant view them from my pictures which is where they are saved as there is no associate programme. I can view them through playmemories which i have downloaded but this is making it very difficult to sort all my stuff as half is on my pictures. Anybody any ideas what i am doing wrong?

When you try and view these videos from My Pictures, what is the extension on the file name i.e. the three/four letters after the '.' in the filename? If you can't initially see it, if you right-click a video file and then choose 'rename' it should make the externsion visible temporarily.

It may also help to download an all-in-one video file viewer such as VLC Player as this will recognise a variety of file formats. When you load this software, try and open the video files directly through the VLC Player menu.
