Pronunciation of Sony

I have heard 2 ways to pronounce Sony.

  • S-oh-ny (Sew-Knee)
  • Sonny (as in Sonny and Cher)

Which one is correct, or better yet - which pronunciation do you use?  Are there any other ways to pronounce it?

I use the first example by the way.

I've found,  ( purely circumstantial rather than scientific) that older people seem to pronounce it 'Sonny'. Everyone in the office pronounces it 'So-ne' though FWIW.

VAIO is a great one - in a former life I had someone call it a VA ten, accidentally mistaking the IO for a 10. That was glorious!

So thats 3 out of 3 so far for "Sew-knee".

I wonder where Sonny came from then?

VA-10 - good one

I have always said Sony (Sew Knee) as in Tony.
