Dynamic Edge or Intelligent Peak?

What's the difference between Dynamic Edge & Intelligent Peak picture technologies?

I'm trying to decide between the 46HX853 and 46HX923.  Which is the better HD picture (darker blacks, less shadowing etc.) ?

Tough one

HX8 is basically the best TV you can buy at the moment from any manufacturer according to many of the reviews. HX9 is a 2011 model and so is missing Netflix from the content lineup, but technically offers a better picture than the HX8 - but some may disagree. Many Sony centres will still have both on display so you can probably get a decent side by side comparison.

In terms of straight up picture quality, they are both excellent, but HX9 would probably edge it slightly.

as catmambo said, however some issues on the HX9 series may put people off, mines been replaced with the HX8 and i can honestly say picture is excellent, 3D has been vastly improved with the faster panel in the 8 series, it does feel overall not as elegant as the 9 series, i feel that the 9's are more solidly built and the remote is a nice solid one too, unlike the 8's, but we not here to caress the tv but to enjoy the excellent picture quality on offer!

Thanks for your help guys. They do have both models in my local showroom, but at different ends of the store - one in full light by the door, and another further back in a dark corner, so I can't really see them "side by side" to compare.

Is the fact that one is a HX85  and the other a HX92 relevant?  Want does the 2 and the 5 represent?  Is this the 2011 vs 2012 models that Catmambo mentions?

And what actually is the difference between Dynamic Edge & Intelligent Peak? The Sony website doesn't really explain this. It would seem to suggest that Intelligent Peak has an extra "boost" for the local dimming, but it doesn't tell me if either is better than the other for HD or SD viewing. One says the contrast ratio is "beyond measurement", whilst the other says it is "infinite" !!  That doesn't help me at all .. it's just confusing sales talk.
