i have exactly the same problem as the other people who have written about this tv model on the forum and there seems to be manty many more out thereon forums reporting the same problem that sony will not acknowledge.
there are dark lines running down my screen and a dark shadow line about an inch think on the right hand side of my screen, this was more noticable when watching football. my tv is not under warrranty anymore but is only 2 and a 1/2 years old. it seems that sony have created their screens to only last this long as lots of people have the same complaint.
i have just rang sony and i have been told that "there is no known problems with this model" that is rubbish as clearly there are a few of us just on this forum with the same pronblem. So we are paying about £1000 for a tv that will only last 2.5 years. i am disgusted with the lack of help and support from the sony call centre staff who basically said i need to get it fixed myself and i need to book it in with a service engineer. I suspect this is a problem with the panel or with the screen where a replace ment would cost you more than getting a new set. it would cost me £45 just for someone to come out and tell me that without even having it repaired. as a dedicated sony buyer over the years i cannot believe that my most expensive buy has only lasted 2.5 years.
WHY IS SONY NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM??
Well, now that Skipton has made some progress, has anyone else had the same joy? Was the repair free Skipton..i.e. the new panel?

Don't know about the repair yet, as the menders still have it! I have been told that they're waiting on a new panel, but I find it hard to believe, based on earlier repair reports (panels being either out of stock or rediculously priced, making a new tv more economical).
I'll not be paying for it - that's for certain. Either the warranty covers it, or they can keep the tv and I'll sue them for costs incurred in getting a new tv. I have the understaning that my Sonex warranty has been transferred to Sony, who will cover the rest of the warranty (a year to run) - this is for units bought from Sony Centres run by failed franchise holders Sonex.
More details when I get any news.
***UPDATE***
Just got off the phone and I've been told that the panel has been declared unserviceable and a replacement part is on 'long-term back-order'. Sony have been informed by the menders and will now advise of whether a panel can be sourced in a reasonable amount of time or if a replacement tv is issued.

Update:
Been offered a 40EX524, which I've declined - I don't want another S-LCD manufactured panel, as i've had 2 fail in recent years.
I've asked to upgrade and pay the difference to get an HX724, which has a panel made by Sharp and is superior in pretty much every way.
We'll see what happens next
I have the same problem with my KDL-40V3000 !!
I am located in Greece, and called the customer helpline. They wrote down my name and phone numbers.
That happened 2 weeks ago. One week ago, a repair technician from their authorized service center, called me and requested to send him by e-mail 2 pictures of my TV, showing the problem. So I did. Today he called back and told me that they have to take the TV for checking (with charge), and send me the repair cost. When I asked if it would be free of charge, since it is a known panel failure in this particular model, he just said that I will pay for any repair they will make, since the TV is not in guarantee period, and nothing is covered.
He also said that a new panel costs from 350 to 500 Euros, not including repair costs!
I am very frustrated with this outcome, since I purchased the TV for 1.790,00 Euros !!, in January 2008 (TV prices are higher here in Greece), and now I will have to just put it away and buy another, NOT SONY of course, since I am afraid that the same problem will happen and I will throw away my money again !!
All my life, I was buying various Sony products; tv's, VCR's, car stereo, Vaio laptop and many others, but now I am very dissapointed, very skeptic and totally lost my confidence on Sony products!!

I would not keep high hopes with Sony TV’s. I just bought a brand new top of the line Flagship TV 65HX923, 4500 pounds. The screen has been faulty from the first day, biggest rip off ever. Sony Support has been telling me all the time that the TV is within specifications and that there are no problems with it. They closed my cases without even responding them. Actually Customer UN-support is what they have. It the best of the cases is appalling and lie to customers, push them back, fob them off to the point or no return.
I have always been buying Sony when I decided to replace my previous Bravia TV, I did a bit of research, and I was considering all brands but always with the balance incline toward Sony. I avoided Sonex Sony Centres because they were in administration. It seems that all Sony Centres are liable to go into administration. I drove over 50 miles to find a non-sonex Sony Centre and lucky I, the one I used also went into administration. The moral of this is to avoid Sony Centres as well as Sony products.
One might think that at this price Sony would pay a bit more of attention but how wrong I was. I have been trying to replace my TV for a working one since I have been very partial to Sony and Sony has only being good for nothing. The Sony Centre being in administration said to me that they can do fab... all as well as Sony UN-support. I am trying to dispute the case with my credit card because clearly they sold me a product which is not fit for purpose which is against the law. Sony pees down the law. I strongly advise to avoid Sony altogether. They use the make believe but believe me there is nothing believable about their products. I had been a loyal Sony customer but the Sony I have been loyal to, is well gone. The current Sony is just another low end manufacturer charging premium prices for really bad quality products.
Just to make things clear in case some might have been confused. I am NOT a Sony Representative. sony_cust11 stands for really angry sony_customer
i bought my sony kdl-40v3000 in 2008 unsure of the right date, and im sure i got an extended guarantee with it, which i cant find, i came on here and i was horrified to see all your problems are the same as mine, with this recall does this cover these horrible marks on the screen, its getting that bad i cant watch it, i always paid the xtra for sony, i wont again, is there anymore we can do about this
Hi All:
I have the same problem with my KDL 40V3000 bought in Jul 2008 and after contacting with Sony based on recognized problem (http://www.sony.es/support/es/product/KDL-40V3000/news/inspection_programme) two weeks ago I continue waiting for the free visit guarantee to check if the problem from the TV is the same as they recognized.
Even if the technician cames to my home and doesn't confirm it, at least I'll be bothering all the Sony Services due to the deffective TV Panels.
Please, all of the owners with a TV model as describes above, call Sony service to request the free technician visit to check the TV.
Regards,
Hi Fellow Sufferers,
It would seem that maybe I did take the extra step without realising it. When I purchased my set about 4 years ago, although I trusted Sony for there excellent products, I took out further cover with Domestic and General. This cost about £95 a year after normal warantee cover. Recently I have suffered the same trauma that many of other KDL40 ?3000 owners have. My set was examined and picked up with the engineer saying a new screen was needed.
Within two weeks my set was returned, good as new . I was pleased because its a good model. I have renewed cover and know that if anything goes wrong its a repair or replace deal. I do feel sorry for all those going through this problem and at the end of the day, especialy regarding the news of all these Sony Bravias overheating , melting and burning, Sony can only be the loser .
