KDL-42W829B USB video playback formats

Can anyone tell me the video formats my KDL-42W829B can play via the USB input, I have read it can play MKV format, When I tried, the screen went off, and the TV reset back to its HDMI input which is my SKY HD PVR.

Is there a certain TYPE/Setting of MKV file that the Sony will play, or is it simply not capable ?

This is the list of codec supported by your TV. There are a lot more parameter that a video file should have that only the MKV format (that descrobe only the container of the video/audio codecs).

In general terms your TV should play MKV files more easily than old AVI files...
