Just bought a Western Digital USB 1TB portable hard disc drive for my VGC RA 304 CEK when I turn it on the computer tries to boot from the portable drive so I have to start the computer with the hard disc unplugged and when it has reached the ready state I can then plug in the portable drive with no problem, is there an answer to this problem?:smileyconfused:

I am not sure which type of BIOS you have - I would guess Phoenix but I may be wrong.
See if you can find your BIOS here: -

I would guess it is the last one at the very bottom of the list and you need to move the Removable Drive to below the HDD in the order. Sorry I can't be more specific but there are many different BIOS types.

Have you tried changing the Boot Order in the BIOS?
Try Tapping F2 during boot - when you see the Vaio Logo - this should open the BIOS screens and allow you to change the Boot Order by moving USB to the bottom of the list, or below HDD at least.

You might try swapping leads for the plug that does boot your computer.

Thanks for your reply, I have found out that I have a AMI Version 2.53 and my boot sequence reads 1st is DVD drive 2nd is Floppy DD and third is Raid which I assume is my C drive, I have managed to change them around so that the HDD is on the top of the list but it doesn't rectify the situation, I don't know if I am trying to change the correct thing as there is no USB listed in the sequence? I did try to send you some jpegs of my boot file but the sight would not allow me to.
