Hitachi Travelstar 7K60 Hard disk (7200 RPM) on Vaio FR315S

Dear all,

I'm looking to change the hard disk of my Vaio (FR315S) with the Hitachi Travelstar 7K60 (7200 rpm) but I¿m not sure if it is compatible or not.

The e-support only says that there will be, after, a problem to reinstall windows XP because the software will probably not recognize the notebook as a Vaio, but they cannot give me an answer about the compatibility with the hardware:smileycry:.

What do you think? Anybody has already changed his hard disk with this model?

It will not overheat the computer, or take too much energy?

Thanks,

Mirko

the proberties of your VAIO are saved in the BIOS
yes, the higher RPM would encrease the temperature
yes, the drive should be compatible
yes, your VAIO would need more energy

The answer from the e-support is wrong.

Thanks,

Doing that I hope that the notebook will be a little bit faster (my actual HDD is 4200 RPM).

I think also that the new disk will turn less than the old one (normally the pc will access to the information faster)...
Do you think that is a good idea?

Mmmmh, I use the same VAIO. Yes, it would make your VAIO a bit faster. But think about the money which you would pay and the age of your VAIO. If you think you can play more games after the upgrate, then you are wrong there. But it's your choice. I can't decide for you.

It's that good old performance over necessity ratio again

For me, the drive is fast enough. But it's true, the HDD is the weakest point in a PC.

Thats why it's great to have a docking station at home with a USB hard disk

What kind of docking station?

Today a made a test with the new HDD samsung (with 5200 RPM, not the 7200 RPM), the performance change really, and the HDD is less under pressure than the old one. The temperature almost was the same than before, and the fan works less, music for my ears! (Just to know, I made a ghost of my old one with the new one).

But I'm not sure if change directly the notebook now!
There are too much things that I cannot support anymore: ATI radeon graphic card I345m, xp home, low battery (I can work only 45 Min with it!), without integrated wireless lan and Bluetooth, too much heavy...
