replacing cpu

was just wondering if any one could give me some advice maybe steps to replace my cpu on a sony viao a617s cant find much info would be a real help

I don't think you will find this worthwhile. It will cost about £150 for very very little gain.

Your original processor is the 2.0 GHz Intel Pentium M Processor 760 which uses the Intel 479 pin socket. The fastest processor that will fit into this socket is the 2.266 GHz Intel Pentium M Processor 780 which has the same 533 MT/s L2 Cache and the same 2040 KiB FSB Speed.

Although Intel's Core Processors also use a 479 pin socket (Socket M), it is a different pinout and Core processors will not fit in your Vaio.
Similarly Intel's Pentium 4 processors cannot be fitted as they use the 478 pin socket.
