Sony Vaio VGN-CS21S will not start up

We have had this laptop for 18 month and no problem but we decied to buy another one and give this to my daughter.  She has only been using it for 2 weeks and some how knackered it.

When you switch it on it said that it was not shut down properly so she chose tthe start up normally option but it still didn't do anything so she switched it off again.

When I switched it on it game me the option to start the recovery option (recommended) but when you press this all that happens is it says it is loading windows files and then you get the microsoft corporation icon and then nothing happens it just goes to a blank screen.

I have tried loading the recovery disk but nothing happens again just get a blank screen.

Not sure what else to do as not that keyed up on computers so any adivce would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advace

Hi Andy.

Either your Windows installation is corrupt or your hard disc is damaged.

It looks like your system cannot find the repair files on your hard drive.  Try downloading and creating a Windows 7 repair disc - see here: -

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows7/Create-a-system-repair-disc

Or if you are using Vista: -

You could also try a full System Recovery back to factory settings by tapping F10 when you see the first Vaio logo.  If you do this all data will be deleted and all Windows and Vaio updates will beed to be reinstalled.

If that doesn't work, it will probably need a new hard drive.  This is the most likely outcome.
