Wireless disabling as desktop loads?!

Hi.

I hope that someone may be able to offer me some advice. I have an NR38S/S - about a week ago I booted up and discovered that the wireless card is disabling between selecting my login icon, and the desktop loading. The WLAN light on the front of the Vaio, by the WLAN on/off slide switch, is on at the user login page, but then as you login to the desktop, the light goes off and the WLAN disables.

Only way to get it on again is go to Vai smart network WLAN settings, select WLAN to off, apply, then select 2.4 and 5 ghz to on, apply, and then it enable again. Moving the WLAN switch on the laptop to off, then on again, will open the smart network settings window, but you have to use the process I have just described to actually kick the WLAN into working.

I've uninstalled, and reinstalled the wireless drivers, but this has had no effect.

This is a most annoying glitch, for which there seems to have been no catalyst. One day my WLAN was quite happily seeking out my wireless broadband on bootup, the next day it was disabling on bootup!

Any help would be most appreciated.

Regards,

Al.

Hi Al.

Welcome to Club Vaio.

Have you installed all the updates for your model - I see there has been as update for Vaio Smart Network here: -

http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/updates/updates.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&c=0&s=VGN-NR&m=3376

The only other suggestion I can make is that you reinstall Vaio Smart Network by installing the original version from here: -

http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/preinstalled/preinstalled.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&m=3376

and then installing the update above.

Many thanks for the advice.

The updated smart network has solved the issue. My Vaio is happily connecting on bootup with no problems now.

Once again my sincere thanks.

Regards,

Al.
