I have a XL301 and have updated the cpu to a q6600 and installed 3 hard drives. It is running Windows 7 beta. When booting up it doesnt go sraight to windows 7 boot up, it shows the installed hard drives and says micro code error, press F1 to continue. I press that and it boots up. However I put the machine to sleep, thats fine and then when it wakes it just shows the vaio screen. to get pass that I have to press the power button, then windows resumes.
Does anybody know how to fix this? Is there a BIOS update for the XL301, do they share the same mobos with the XL201. I have the bios update for that regarding the driver conflict with nvidia cards so I assume that bios is upto date.
A link or post of the BIOS for XL301 would be highly appreciated
Thanks for reading guys
Sorry i can not help you with your problem but i am intrested in your cpu up grade. did you have any trouble with the q6600 or did it slot straight in?
thanks in advance
Hi it fitted straight in, its a lga775 socket. The only problem now is the micro code error, it will not boot straight to windows you have to press f1 to carry on
Hi did you manage to sort out your start problems? i am thinking about up grading my 301 to the q6600 but am a little worried i may get the same problems. it apears you guys on this forum have a lot more experience than i do.
thanks
Hi,
I too have upgraded my CPU although not to the q6600, as I understood this CPU is not supported fully. I do however have the same problem. I currently dual boot Vista and Windows 7. Vista will restart all day long, but Windows 7 will hang when restarting when it gets to the BIOS screen, and I too have to press the power switch to get it to boot into Windows 7.
As an aside I also have an issue with the soft eject under Windows 7, any ideas on this. I might try extracting the driver from Vista using DriveMax, Maybe this should be another thread
If I solve the restart issue I will post back.

Could i ask which CPU you have upgraded to?
The XL301 and XL201 have the same motherboard, the fastest CPU that is supported by the BIOS is the Intel Core 2 Duo E6700. Quad core CPUs are not supported at all and so will give you problems. The only BIOS update available for this board is to resolve an issue with the XL201 graphics under Vista.
Hi H4,
I have an Intel core 2 6600 @ 2.4ghz, with 3gb ram installed, theoretically the most 32bit vista will support. I have also replaced the graphics card with an Ati HD3450 passive, that fits quite nicely with an HDMI and a DVI connector on a low profile bracket. It was hard to find I can tell you.
