Seriously. After using PC Companion on my D2306 (FIDO running 4.3) and updated to 4.4.4 everything seemed ok until I found that ALL of my notifications now only appear in Portugese instead of English. I've chosen English (Canada) every time after running a repair and all the menus display in English. But the notifcation bar stays in Portugese. Seems like for whatever reason PC companion figured I was in Brazil instead of Canada and gave me the wrong firmware.
So...how do I get this back? PC Companion caused this so surely there is a way it can fix it. I get an option to chose my model but not country (might want to consider adding that in there guys). Even searched around for a stock FIDO or generic UK or North American firmware I can flash but nothing seems to be out there. All the links I found are now dead (suspecting Sony had them killed). Not cool and definitley not the way you support your products.
Even did some digging in a google developer thread and this notification language issue has been around since 2.3 and they STILL can't fix it. Says the app is responsible for requesting the language, but isn't the notification bar part of the OS itself? I have to say I HATE apple products but not ONCE have I ever heard of one of their products (just can't bring myself to actually name one though) display a completely different language than was chosen. Is this a new "feature" google is pushing on us to become more international? lol
So...Sony. Either fix this through PC Companion and put me back to the stock FIDO (or a generic version) or give me the ftf so that I can flash it myself. But there has GOT to be a workable solution out there. Been loyal to Sony mobile all through my X10, Play, Arc, T (bought 2 of them btw), M2 and WAS planning on getting a Z series (X3 probably) later this year but REALLY questioning shelling out any more cash if a simple issue like this isn't going to be fixed by Sony. Or at LEAST give me the tools (FTF) to fix it myself.
PCC wouldn't create this issue, unless you have previously flashed the phone. If you still think it was a Sony issue, contact your local Xperia Care
I can 100% confirm this phone had NEVER been connected to any computer before yesterday. I honestly have no clue as to how this happened but it did. Only thing I can think of (which still shouldn't affect it) is if I was connected to my VPN service (which I don't recall if I was or not).
But I finally did manage to find a customised US 4.4.2 ftf (all bloatware pre-stripped off) and was able to flash it fine. Ran PCC and updated to 4.4.4 and all seems good and none of the bloatware was pushed back on. At the end of the day things were finally fixed but frankly this should have NEVER been an issue to begin with.
Isn't part of the point of android to give users more flexibility? Why we allow our providers to TELL us what apps we must have forced on us or why we have to jumpt through such hoops to pull them off is beyond me. Sony would do themselves such a great service by giving their users the choice as to what version OS to load on. If I want to run a Romanian version of 4.1.2 then let me do it. lol
But problem solved.
Glad to hear that you found a solution to the issue.
I'm afraid i don't know how this could have happened either, it should not be possible to get wrong firmware installed when using PC Companion unless the phones software have previously been modified by 3:rd party tools.
While i understand that some users may want to switch to another firmware version, i suspect that in most countries, local and operator agreements prevents us from providing this functionality. In the country i'm in we can for example not remove the operators firmware from a phone as that was one of the terms when it was sold.
