Phone storage

Recently I saw that the hidden folder called ".thumbnails" in "DCIM" contains large unknown type files called thumbdata. Those files are eating approx 5 GB of my phone storage(2.4GB*2). So I deleted them. But free storage of my phone remains same after deleting. Though those files are not there now. Why this is happening? Plz help.. ..

I know that thumbnails are recreated. But deleting them should free the phone storage. Why its not happening. I checked today again a file called ".thumbdata-****“ created automatically which is of 2.4 GB. But previously there were two such files 2.4 GB each and now only one. So where is the free 2.4 GB? Where the all memory goes?

You can try settings-apps-all-media storage, force stop and clear data. Restart the device. This will index all of your media files again.

Tried this but no results. After restarting when I deleted the the.thumbdata files and check phone storage, free space remains same. It seems like generation of it or deleting it has no effect on phone memory. Phone memory have some space fixed for it which can't be freed. But the sad thing is that it takes almost 5 Gb which is very large....
