whatsaap uses only wifi to work

What happens when you open WhatsApp when the mobile data is activated? Do you receive any error message or similar? Does other applications (that requires network connection) work via mobile data?

Perhaps you could check if you have Proxy/Port on your internet APN via Settings > More > Mobile networks > Access Point Names > Your internet account > Proxy/Port. If you have, try to remove them and then try again.

Check if your carrier network has blocked certain apps/services also, have you restricted background data?
