Issues after after update to Android 10

I just upgraded to Android 10 (52.1.A.0.532).

Since then

- My recorded voice messages in WhatsApp are very quiet. I can't change the record volume anywhere. The recipients can hardly understand what I say, even if they are at full volume. Before update the volume level was normal.

- The finger print sensor responds very slow. I need to keep the finger on the sensor for at least one second. Before update it worked within 1/10th of a second.

- The status bar (on top, where you can see the battery l and time) sometimes disappeared after wakeup of the phone from standby.

Please find a solution to this and roll out a new system update asap.

It appears that Sony's problems with Android 10 have now made the press:

https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/02/10/sony-suspended-android-10-xperia-xz3-xz2/

No real "news", but interesting to read.

Thanks for the article... It would be really nice to see a site with some weight behind it trying to get an official statement out of sony... It is really disgusting that Sony won't say anything about this horrible update from their side... Not even an apology... One way to lose customers even faster.

Same for me. After update to Android 10 the phone became laggy. It will run normal again after reset, but in a few days it is going laggy again. So, after 4 days the phone becoming unusable.

Of course I have got problems with fingerprint sensor and quick drain of battery during night ( 10% drain when I sleep with all function like bluetooth, wi-fi, lte, nfc off ).

Please Sony, fix it.

It looks like bad memory magament and the phone is laggy now.

Sony has started to release updates to xz2c as I heard and saw, but just seems to be two custom roms available right now

My XZ3 keeps loosing the GSM/3G/4G connection, sometimes going to flight mode or restarting the phone helps. I have an older Xperia with a SIM from the same network provider (Telia SE) that stays connected with 4G+ at the same time. This leads to missed calls (usually missing a call without any indication what so ever on the phone, just an SMS from the provider stating that I've missed a call), calls dropping out (often within 5-10 minutes, sometimes before even connecting) and a lot of other phone related issues.

Aside from that I'm, also experiencing the following issues after the Android 10 upgrade:

  • Battery drains quickly once in a while. This is not regular, a reboot of the phone often stops the drainage. When this happens the phone can get very warm (appearantly the phone is "doing something" in the background).
  • Sometimes the phone gets extremely slow reacting. The UI slows down.
  • The call status (when calling actually works) is not updated when I end a call, leads to confusion wether if I have hung up or not.
  • Internet connection over LTE/3G fails/breaks/stops/pauses repeatedly. Running bandwidth check leads to numbers ranging from 0 to fairly high.
  • WiFi connection issues, similar to the LTE/3G-connection issues above.
  • After starting the camera, the camera app stops (~1 time out of 3) with a message that the (external) storage has failed.

This all started after my recent upgrade to Android 10.

My xz2c (dual sim) had pretty much the same issue as your xz3 (losing connections, missed calls,...) i have tried many things but i couldn't solve the problem... I sold the dual sim version and bought the single-sim... Never had this issue again... But i know how frustrating it is.. Especially since no one @sony cared... There is a topic for the XZ2compact @xda-developers concerning this...

In the meantime:

- microphone is pure dip**bleep** on my phone (don't use voice mails often) --> unuseable

- phone decides to restart from time to time

- "no sim card" error message, which most of the time disappears on its own again. If not, restart is needed (i don't need to touch the dual sim slot at all. Have 1 sim + 1 sd card inside)

- touchscreen e.g. on android desktop screen unresponsive, except for the 3 soft-buttons (back, home, options). Turning display off/on solves this issue till it appears again

.

He.ll, Sony! PLS speed up fixing this OS update. You guys really disappointed me, seeing the phone working like a charm before. Please don't release another alpha built ever again.

And please consider to provide a free-at-will downgrade back to Android 9 as long as 10 is not tested sufficiently and working properly!

After writing my previous post I switched the SIM cards between another phone (and older Xperia) and my XZ3. The SIM has worked flawlessly in the other phone for the last three weeks or so, but the XZ3 still had the same issues as I listed before, even with another SIM card for the same network. I've been using the WiFi hotspot on the other phone to connect my XZ3 to the internet, that has been working fairly well.

I got a new update this morning, finally, 52.1.A.0.618. I switched the SIM cards between the phones again and it took less than half an hour before the communication on the XZ3 started failing. So, I guess I have to try something else. My next test will be to do a factory reset of the XZ3, however there's a chance that I'll buy a new phone instead. Getting through the process of installing/reinstalling/reconfiguring everything on a new phone is a tedious process and I usually keep the old phone running until I'm sure that I've transferred everything.
