On a PC the GPS assist data can automatically be updated when PlayMemories/Picture Motion Browser are installed. As these software is not available for MAC OS/iPad, a manual integration of the GPS assist data on the storage card is neccessary. You need a SD card reader compatible with the iPad (e.g. the Apple Camera connection kit)

That is useful information, that conforms with information about a Perlscript that I found elsewhere (https://blog.brixandersen.dk/2010/04/02/downloading-sony-gps-assist-data-using-perl/).
However, on my new HX90V, the folder PRIVATE/SONY/GPS does not contain a file assistme.dat, although, after updating using Playmemories, my camera seems to know the data (at least, it shows its lifetime).
Anybody knows if the trick still works or if the HS90V requires another procedure.
I will be traveling with only an Android phone and an old Linux netbook.
