2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

I gave up eventually (especially after the last dig @tweety2b had at me, even though I acknowledged his role in informing the community ).

Sony wouldnt' take mine back as I'd had it for 6 weeks so I had to flog it on ebay. Got £700 for it which is a £600 loss in 6 weeks. One hell of a loss but the best lessons are always expensive.

I've now also sold my Z3 compact, Z4 tablet and PS4. Replaced them all with Samsung devices and an Xbox 1, I'm very happy with Samsung as their products do what they advertise on the box rather than make promises they'll never keep. I'll never buy anything from Sony ever again and I've made it my mission now to leave my findings on this on reviews as much as possible and to also advise friends, family, coleagues and clients to never touch Sony products.

Lesson learnt, Sony will try their best to take your money from you then bend you over and abuse you without lube. Caveat Emptor.

I'm outta here. Good luck to those of you persevering.

We should be able to return them due to the breaches in the Trade Descriptions Act. In the UK at least they're not allowed to sell products that don't match their descriptions. I've contacted Sony Support and asked them to send me a copy of their complaints procedures

are they serious, now HDD recording release date has been removed from their website. Was summer, then changed to October, now the month has been remove, in other words delayed! WHY SONY!

What is the point of having dual freeview and dual satellite tuner is we cannot use it. Pathetic!

COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME

I know this will sound silly since we purchased an Andriod TV, but I wonder if Sony could just dump it and flash it with the old system, that used to work perfectly.

as for pip/pap I don't thick it will ever come, same for Rec.

As for Sony support, its a complete waste of time, they are there just pamper customers into a false hopes. Also just to upset Sony more, all retailers have to offer full refunds because the item is not as described in the advertising, Rec as example was stated as working, and not requiring an update to make it work. That in itself is grounds to get a full refund. Same for PAP.

This has been confirmed, also if you purchased via a credit card you have extra rights.

I have a strange new issue, some of my HD channels have disappeared eg 101 (bbc hd). My first HD channels start at 106. I've done a full retune.

Any suggestions?

Has anyone else experienced, that if you use Cast to cast from YouTube,
there's a 3-4 seconds delay on the audio, and video moves almost like
slowmotion?

Yes I get the slow motion video when casting YouTube videos. Everything else casts OK, out is just YouTube. I'm glad someone else has this problem and it isn't just me and my setup. I find it very annoying because that is how I watch YouTube videos. I wonder if it is an app problem or a Sony problem? The YouTube app works OK on the TV though.

I get audio delay in youtube if I send the audio via bluetooth with my phone so I believe it's the apps fault

I have noticed issue with sound on HD modes, but it seems to me that the picture is lagging behind the sound.
