Hi guys,
just a new thread to tell you guys how I am disappointed (sort of) with my new Android TV from Sony KD65XD9305.
I just bought this TV with a pretty great discount (2000€) and picture quality is very good.
For Android TV, I find it stable and fine. The main reason I chose Sony was for Android TV (I didn't wanted WebOS or Tizen).
So as I use the TV ONLY with network stored media, I plugged the Ethernet cable to get something reliable and fast...
HORROR !!! Ethernet port is not Gigabit... Sony are you kidding me ??? How do you plan to stream 4K HDR content to the TV with 100 Mb link ???
Let's do some math : Movie 2h00 / 63 GB = 64512MB to send to TV in 2 Hr so / 7200 = 9 Mb /s we are pretty close of the max we can output on 100mb network so as the bitrate is variable and some actions scene require much more of it you get bad picture lag and audio drop in half of the movie.
To confirm that it was not decoding problem, I putted the file on an external HDD plugged directly into the TV and had no problem at all.
So I wrote you a mail Sony, to explain that to you... 1 week later I got a person with no knowledge whatever who told me that I needed to run a speedtest because it was my internet (WAN) connection that was slow.
Just LOL ^^
I told myself that I was doomed.
So I search again and discovered that the Onboard wifi was 5 Ghz AC compatible. Maybe a way out.
So I droped my Cisco Meraki 300N Wifi and I got a TPLink Archer C7 C1750 (so it meens 900 Mb theorical on AC 5 Ghz)
It could have solved my bandwith problem on local network !!!
And guess what... it didn't because I think wifi chip or driver or ??? is total crap...
The TV is at less than 1 meter of the access point (no wall...), connected at 5 Ghz and I can't get download bandwith to a minimum of 100 Mb (a joke).
If I do the same test from the same spot with the same app at the same time on the same wifi of the same network with my phone (Google Nexus 6P) I get approx 230 mb of bandwith.
Screen cap are just at the bottom
What do you want to answer to that ???
So your Smart TV of 2016 is just to slow to play a 4k movie of 2016 (I tried Mad Max and Deadpool) on local network (no matter how good network connection is, I have full gigabit network at home).
So now my very precise question : Do you plan to adress this problem Seriously upgrading Wifi driver / firmware to get real fast connexion (as I am sure you cannot upgrade wired card to gigabit with software upgrade) ?
I am available if you need more statistics and / or informations with the test environment.
Hi, same specs on the Internet connection here and having terrible streaming problems, but the odd thing is that is just with Netflix, all other apps within the Android system works well for the streaming.
Have you found out a workaround?
I have the Sony KD-55A1.
Cheers.
I beleive the Internet streaming service (ex. Netflix) are optimize low bit rate for fast transfer speed so it doesn't affect performance when streaming.
But for high bitrate, I have 4K Ultra HD 4K Blue-ray RIP with bitrate 59.7 Mb/s (file size 58.5 GB) It unwatchable with my X8000D (ATV2) lag & buffer all time using Kodi, ES Media Player, VLC & Sony video player.
This is result from stream using FTP server via SMB, play with Sony video player.
The problem came from network adapter performance (maybe driver) and I beleive this is the worst network adapter I ever met.
TV Model : X8000D, XBR800D (Andoid TV version : 7.0, PKG6.2508.0050PAA)
- WiFi 2.4 (n) :
- WiFi 5Ghz (ac) :
- Wire/ Ethernet :
Compare result stream to other Laptop, same AP.
- WiFi 5Ghz (ac) :
In 2.4Ghz it got similar speed compare to Ethernet but for 5Ghz it even worse since it should be only solution for poor ethernet speed. My laptop & router (Apple Time capsule) not far from TV for 1 metre and restore factory default doesn't help anything.
This is 4K HDR television that doesn't able to stream 4K via local network. Can we still call this thing as "smart" TV ?
Even my Galaxy Tablet with Android Mashmallow (5.1.1) still able to play with better speed than my television
- WiFi 5Ghz (ac) :
Hi guys! I managed to stream 70 & 80gb 4K files through PLEX after turning off the samba service, clearing some Sony app caches and som other stuff explained in this video: https://youtu.be/w3ZnPq06jjA
Before I did this i had stuttering and lagg on 30-40gb files.
Disabling Samba can lead to problems with latest FW, see here. It also did not solve the pop-up problem in the past (the video is wrong). You had to opt-out of Samba as desribed here. Things however are different with latest FW.
If you watch this video, it does not come as a surprise that this can bring a slow Sony to its knees. They are tracking and transmitting user behavior with a resolution of 1 second. And who knows what those Sony services do. I just don't trust this company anymore. I mean how can you these days?
Ohhh... i thought the samba service was a network samba filesharing protocoll running in the background but i couldnt understand why it was taking so much system resources... but now its starting to make sense.. Thanks for clearing that up! I dont want this sh.. in my TV!
It sure helped with the ui and network performance, and I dont get the samba notifications every 3s, so ill keep it off
Seems like they are forcing us to get something like the Apple TV 4K or similiar for 4k content
What can you expect from a company that hires (politically-incorrect) peope?
I complained to Sony that any email notification sent from this forum sends to you a page where you are forced to pick your location (yep every time you click the lnks)... translate it ot "those people never learnt what GeoIP and cookie meaning".
They replied me after a long time telling me that unfortunately they cannot fix this. Yep, unfortunatelly I am not going to buy or recommend Sony anymore to anyone.
I guess they are right, they really cannot afford to hire decently skilled people, so they cannot fix such problems.
Those problems are systemic across entire Sony, this not being an isolated case. I am quite ok about discovering problems but if you see same kind of problems everywhere and instead of being fixed their number is only growing,.... you relise that you wasted your time trying to send feedback.

Update: it seems that even using the forum become an issue "Post flooding detected (community received posts of a unique message more than 1 times within 3,600 seconds)". And I am pretty sure this was the only post coming from my IP address, which is used by me. Or maybe that's the AI censorship under disguise.
I can't find that samba service in android 6.0 , I guess it's a different software structure?
It is only in Sony Nougat firmware for ATV2 devices currently.
Hi there,
I’m trying to squeeze out at least a stable 100-120mbit/s from my local network but can’t do 😞
I’ve a XE9005 with a Virgin media hub 3.0 and a raspberry pi3 with a trendnet gigabit adapter. I thought this would be sort out my low speed but doesn’t helped to much tbh 😕
I’ve got 45/47 (up/down) mbits thru 5ghz wifi 😟
I seen you mentioned the netgear a6210. If I’ll invest for this wifi adapter would be work together with my telly is it plug’n’play?
thanks
