Bravia TV VEWD browser

I have a new Bravia TV 49XH8505.  When the VEWD browser is playing a video and I click the full screen button, it puts the picture under the line under the menu bar, leaving the menu bar still showing. The bright line against the usually darker picture is distracting and uncomfortable.  I have raised this with Sony who say this is “within specifications”.  As no other browser I have used does this I question that.  I have also been told it is not on this TV possible to add or change the browser and my attempts seem to confirm this.  Fortunately, there is a way around via airplay.  However, this is not very satisfactory.  Has anyone else found this and solved it?  Also, I have had other problems with the full screen option with specific websites so think it may be a program fault.

Hi Michael,

Unfortunately this issue is related to the VEWD browser itself. It's an app running on your TV and it's behaviour is as designed by the app vendor.

However, since you have an Android TV you might be able to find a different browser in the Google Play Store.

I'm using the "Puffin Browser" which is really cool from my point of view.

Cheers

Peter

KDL-43WF663  The browser cannot play live streams. I tried 'metopera.org' daily live stream, and got what seems to be a decode error. The browser seems incapable of playing live streams. Is this correct?

I got the same result. Have got round it by streaming on my IPad and using AirPlay.

That's right. I use my Samsung phone and cast to the tv. But should I have to???? Is the browser basically useless?

According to Sony, the browser isn't designed for video playback, it's for general browsing with the smart apps being used for streaming.

So how is it best to view the content of sites like the Met Opera in NY where, so far as I know, the only way to the material is through their website.  I know you then get sent through to a specialist platform (cannot remember which) but one does have to get there.  VEWD and Puffin do not manage this; is there any browser which one can download and which will achieve it?

I'd recommend screen mirroring or connecting an external box/computer for that.
