Mute control on XR42A90KU 42" 4K BRAVIA

Hello all, is there a setting I can change such that when the sound is muted I can then reduce the volume level?

Currently (from new) the volume can't be changed whilst muted.
Despite supposedly having the sound level balanced across all inputs, there is annoyingly, often a very big disparity of levels.
The Bravia model this replaced was configured the opposite way round - entirely as needed for the new one.
Thank you.

Hi @JimEngineer

The way it should work is as soon as you change the volume up it turns off the mute. This is by design. The volume doesn't change going down while muted.

If you are having problems with levels from different inputs then I would turn on advanced auto volume.

Settings -> Display & Sound -> Sound -> Advanced auto volume -> Auto.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

The previous Bravia could be muted and then the volume could be reduced. Not increased, as you say, without mute being cancelled.

I was hoping to find that by changing a setting (not found one) this facility on the last Bravia could be selected.

I have already selected the auto volume.

Hello @JimEngineer, I have this TV and the only way to cancel the mute is by pressing the mute button or Volume+ only

Hello Piscie,

what I am seeking is a means of being able to reduce the volume whilst muted. As it is at present I can only lower the volume if it is not muted.

Hi @JimEngineer   We know what you would like, what are saying is we don’t think it is possible. You could try Sony Support. If you do get an answer then please share it in the community.

Hello @JimEngineer, I understand what you're trying to do and maybe it's possible on other TVs but what I'm saying is this is not possible on this TV I'm afraid
