Sony 65x89k UK

Hey all, just found this page thought id make a post to see if anyone can help.

Im new to Sony Android tv, just bought the 65X89k, and im having a few issues with sound, preset sound settings, where you can select a preset choice like, sport, music, cinema etc,  Most tvs have these options but i cant find it anywhere at all on mine.  I have done a google search but found very little info except reference to customising your sound with these options.

Mine doesnt seem to have them, the only way i seem to be able to alter my sound is by a built in graphic eaqualiser, i add that i dont have a Set top box, this is set up with the satellite cable connected directly to the tv for freesat as i also only have a sky dish, no aerial.

I did wonder if the options im looking for are only available through a Hdmi cable connection.

Any help appreciated, im baffled by the lack of these settings.

Hi, sound mode is actually a feature that is either available or not available on specific models. Checking the specifications of your Sony KD-65X89K, I can see that Sound mode is not available as a feature on your TV. Specifications. I hope this helps.

You should be able to set up sound preferences for each input you use,

TV (terrestrial), Satellite, HDMI inputs like Blu Ray/ DVD or set top box, games etc.

USB devices also.

Press the settings button on your remote control.

Click on Settings from the pop up menu and then click on Display and Sound from the main menu.

Or from the pop up menu scroll right to Sound Settings and also Sound Mode.

These instructions are for my Sony XR42A90K, yours may be slightly different.

Thanks and yer ive done all that, it just isnt there, i have a sound calibration feature, an equaliser and the usual options for dolby, surround etc, but not a preset in sight anywhere so im assuming this model doesnt have preset sound selections.

Hi @graygerman

If the Sound mode is missing then you need to add it in using Edit (far right).

No it isnt there ive already looked, the only thing i can add regarding sound is Audio output which lets me select speakers etc, the only other boxes left unticked are Home Theatre Control,  Accessibility,  Talkback,   Text Magnif,   Screen Reader  and thats it.

Like i said in post, its either totally missing from this TV or not an option ever included with it.

Do you by any chance have a contact number or anything for Sony support, how i can speak to someone, id like to figure it out, looking through my manual this option should be there, i paid a lot of money for this directly from Sony with a 5 year guarantee, if somethings not right then i would like to try sort it, the sound just, well, sounds so flat and awful in honesty.

Hi @graygerman

I had assumed that your TV would be the same as my 2022 XR-55A95K, I was wrong.

Looking on my 2021 bedroom TV KD-43X89J which is probably the 2021 equivalent of yours. There is no Sound mode. Having said that I have zero problems with the sound on my X89J.

Perhaps it is because my A95K has an Acoustic Surface Audio+ screen plus 4 speakers and our X89s only have 2 speakers and Sony are too lazy to add Sound mode.

Hello thanks for the fast reply.

Apparently its not, my software ver is - PKG6.6070.0711EUA

I spoke with Sony, raised a case, the problem with this is i was told to update the tv to the one you mentioned, which i was sent by email,  the tv settings tell me im running the latest software so i was asked to try via usb which i now have and that also tells me my software is up to date please remove usb and press ok.

Either way i know something isnt right with my tv.  It did update itself last week to the current version it displays but the sound issue has been there since i bought it a couple week back, im starting to kick myself for it, my Hisense worked perfect and never had any issues, seems no matter what i cant do anything with this tv.
