Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me on my confusion.
I have a Sony KD-49XF9005 with a Sky Q 2TB box connected. I'm using HMDI 2 which is set to enhanced and on the Sky Q box I've got picture resolution set to 2160p 10-bit.
Whenever I watch Sky Ultra HD content and then go into "Action Menu" and choose "Picture" I never see the HDR symbol displayed. Which I would expect.
Am I missing something? Why would this symbol not display?
If I go onto YouTube and play an HDR video and check the Picture I see the HDR symbol.
Why is this not showing on Sky Ultra HD content?
Dan.
Hi @BigFishyBob
is it worth checking that you have a 32B1 or 32B2 Sky Q box and the programme you are watching definitely has HDR. Note Sky Q Netflix HD HDR does not display HDR, it has to be Netflix 4K HDR.
My box is hardware version 32B12C which supposedly supports HDR.
I have thought that maybe I'm just not watching Ultra HD HDR content. But I've no idea which Sky content is in HDR, Sky don't make it obvious. But the fact that whenever I do watch Ultra HD content I always check the Picture settings and never see the "HDR" symbol makes me think something is amiss.
Hi @BigFishyBob
There is very limited HDR content on Sky. Most people try “Gangs of Lemur Island” in UHD it is definitely HDR.
Another one is Britannia II (2). There is only a handful of programmes on Sky with HDR. The vast majority of UHD content does not have HDR.
The moment I press the ACTION key I can tell if it is HDR by the brighter whites. Then obviously HDR showing when selecting Picture.
Oh great shout!!!
Just downloaded and played "Gangs of Lemur Island" and checked picture settings and it did indeed show "HDR". I've naively thought that most of Sky's Ultra HD content was HDR, obviously not.
Cheers for the pointers.
