Sony XR-65A75K / XR-65A80K Dolby Vision from usb

I have bought a Sony XR-65A75K which supports Dolby Vision. I have watched DV movies from Disney+ with no problem.

Problem is with .mkv files and DV from a usb. I cannot play DV from it. All green and purple...

.mp4 works fine.

Anyone has the same problem?? any way to fix this??

@MarioPantz

Have a read of this Reddit thread:-

https://www.reddit.com/r/ShieldAndroidTV/comments/rvsqdq/how_can_a_play_a_dolby_vision_mkv/

So (a) not just Sony and (b) all sorts of insights and things to try there.

If/when you get it working, please let us know what fixed it for you!

My favourite bedtime reading is a Sony product manual…

After reading many posts (above and royabrown2) I tried somethings and find out that.

1. with the native player DV is playable correctly only if file is mp4. mkv doesn't show correctly

2. with vlc neither are shown correctly (mp4 + mkv)

3. Just (video) player plays both correctly (although you have to choose every single time the file, it doesn't have a list of the folders in the usb and so lacking ease of use).

It seems that adding Dolby Vision to the mkv container is a relatively recent thing and most devices/software don't recognize the update to that container at this point in time since it's so new...

It may also have to do with the profiles used..

So the easy solution is use mp4 files, You can also use Just (video) player. Or wait for an update.......

Maybe I'll try other players that are easier to use (as native or vlc) and report back.

Got an official reply from Sony Greece. The reply is in Greek so I used translate. Links also in greek but you can use google translate on the pages.

Dear customer,

We would like to thank you for your email and for your trust in Sony products.

Regarding your request, we would like to inform you that in the below links you can check all related information about DV
and supported files from an external device:

https://helpguide.sony.net/tv/jaep1/v1/el/04-09_02.html?hl=dolby+vision

https://helpguide.sony.net/tv/jaep1/v1/el/04-01-03.html

Finally, it seems that this feature is not possible in an mkv file, possibly in the future with a similar update to be added.

Hey @MarioPantz

I checked this link from the help guide of the TV, I don't think DV is supported in the .mkv files: https://helpguide.sony.net/tv/jaep1/v1/en/04-01-03_03.html
