Hi guys,
Today I went to use my Mini-DV - Sony Handycam DCR-HC22E and it turns on fine, but when inserting the power cable to charge or use while connected to the mains, the camera just shuts down and doesn't respond.
Now, the battery has run flat and it won't even charge.
Any idea why this is happening?
Thanks!
Hello MrLairan - Welcome to the Sony Forums
To see whether this is a fault with the power supply or the camera itself, you may need to get this checked out by booking a repair with Sony or another qualified independent engineer. In the first instance, I would suggest contacting Sony to get an idea about the process and possible costs involved and their contact details are contained within the following thread:

You could also try purchasing a new power supply to see if this makes your camera charge again but at the same time you have to weigh up the cost of this compared to getting it checked out first. If you wish to get a new power supply, you can find these online for anything up to £20.
Thanks,
Simon
Thanks for the reply! I did consider picking up another charger and trying that first...I could always sell it on if that's not the problem.
Is there anyway it could be the battery? Or would the camera work normally if I took the battery off and just used it off the mains?
Anyway, I'll probably look into buying a charger and going from there. Thanks :smileyhappy:.
Hello again
There is a chance that it could also be the battery - perhaps if you have a photography or AV store locally to you they may be happy for you to take it in and test it with one of the batteries that they have in stock. I guess trying to run it off the mains without a battery may indicate if the problem is battery or camera related.
Thanks,
Simon
Thanks Simon! I'll probably buy this and take it from there: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SONY-HANDYCAM-AC-MAINS-ADAPTER-ADAPTOR-BATTERY-CHARGER-POWER-SUPPLY-DCR-HC...

Ross.
I got the power supply...made no difference :smileysad:.
If it won't switch on with the mains adaptor connected (battery removed) the camera must have an internal power supply fault, in which case it's time to consider a repair, unfortunately.

Thought so, Mick.
I've seen you can get battery chargers - just for the actual disconnected battery - so I might get one of those and just use that for now.
