Hi,
I know there are problems allowing windows 7 to acknowledge my handycam (i have updated my picture package to pmb) but nowhere can i find a solution i have trawled the net and here but have info overload and now cannot see or think straight.
Is there a simple solution or cable i can get, this i-link will that do it? but i dont think my laptop has a port to use it or do i have to get a connector aswell?
Please help but be gentle i am thicker than a whale omelette, simple terms please ;((

Hello again
I have just looked at your laptop specification and the necessary slot is not present - therefore the product in the Amazon link will not be compatible.
Unfortunately this probably means that capturing the video to your laptop will not be possible as a lack of firewire is a result of how cameras and camcorders have evolved in recent years. If possible, you could find a friend or family member with a desktop PC and if you add one of the sub £10 PCI firewire cards to this, you will be able to capture the video.
Thanks,
Simon

I think there is a software that can read the file from your handycam even if you are using Windows 7. With regards to connections, you can buy one on any camera store near you which includes connection converter.

you need an i-link 4 pin to 4 pin cable to connect to your computers i-link port(firewire, IEEE 1394 interface).
what computer are you using i.e does it have a firewire port

Hello albeard56 - Welcome to the Sony Forums
You mentioned that you have a HP Pavilion laptop - could you please let me know the exact model number of the laptop so I can check to see what kind of expansion sockets are available. It is likely that there isn't an available iLink port at present but if there is a general expansion port on there i.e. PCMCIA, it will be possible to use one of these:
The exact model number for your laptop should be printed on a sticker underneath - somewhere near the battery.
Thanks,
Simon

Hi Blaireau,
Thanks for your link to the Amazon website. I contacted the seller and asked which of his products would be best for my camcorder (DCR-TRV265E) and after several emails, photos sent of my cameras out slots and the leads that I already have, was advised of the best lead for my camera. The cost for the lead and new software was a huge (£22) including p&p, how great is that against the cost of a new camera.
I really am most grateful, I had trawled the internet and Sony website for about 8 hours before coming accross your post - Thank you.
For anyone else having problems with their camcorder not being recognised by XP, VISTA & WINDOWS 7,
the link Blaireau has given is great, but please contact the seller "Frank" before buying as not every lead will be suitable for your camera. Frank is very kind, and extremely helpful considering I hadn't yet made a purchase. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to go back to him.
Thanks once again Blaireau, you are a gem.
Kind Regards
Sue
