RX10M4 in cold weather

The specifications and the user guide says the following:

OPERATING TEMPERATURE
0 degrees C. - +40 degrees C. / 32 degrees F. - 104 degrees F.

Shooting in extremely cold or hot places that exceed this range is not recommended.

How serious is this?

I live in Norway and in winter time it is usual that the temperature is below 0°C.

What happens if I take the camera out when the temperature is below the freezing point? I’m interested in any comments especially if anyone has any own experiences.

Will the cold weather be able to cause damage to the camera or will it (the camera) just behave badly?
