How to get RM-ED032 to work with Sony DVD recorder RDR-HXD870?

I have a Sony TV model KD 40Z5800, and a Sony HDMI DVD recorder RDR-HXD870, playing through a Sony theatre stand system RHT-65.

I have just bought a replacement remote TV control RM-ED032 (because Sony no longer manufactures the original TV remote), and while everything else seems to work using the new remote, I cannot seem to get the remote to switch the DVD recorder on via the dedicated funtion button on the remote control.  Do I need to do something else, or will it simply not work with this particlar DVD recorder (when it works with everything else?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks.  IF

Hi iafuell,

Welcome to the community.

This sounds frustrating. I'm not sure what to suggest but I'll see if I can find anything out for you.

Thanks,

Pascale

Hi iafuell,

I don't think that this is related to the fact that it's a new remote control, as long as the remote delivers the signal to the TV, control for HDMI should be working fine. Have you checked the control for HDMI settings on the TV and the Player? Make sure that the feature is enabled in both devices.

Thanks Almou_10.

Checked HDMI settings and they are both enabled.  Have now fixed it, purely by chance and a lot of reading instruction booklets. So for reference, and anyone else with a similar problem, the issue relates to a particular 3 digit code that you need to install on the remote itself to enable it to sync properly with the HDMI set up.

It was in fairly small print in the DVD instruction booklet, although the suggested default code was incorrect and didn't work, so simply had to enter numbers in turn before finding the correct one, e.g 001, 002 etc. (025 worked) !

Not the greatest system, and no instructions received with the remote unit (apart from how to insert batteries!) Sony could and should do so much better.

Thanks again all.  IF
