Sony Wena Smartband WNW-B11B - 'No battery'

I bought a Sony WNW-B11B smart band in June last year. The battery has stopped working - when on charge the screen just says 'No battery'. It appears that it is not replaceable so the smart band no longer works.
 
I've contacted Sony to ask about how I can get the item repaired and they have directed me to the retailer, who has merely sent me back to Sony.
 
The product is out of warranty, but I was expecting a premium Sony product to last longer than 14 months and am very disappointed. Anyone have an idea what I should do?

If they directed you to the retailer, it means that it's not repairable or not economically repairable, and since it's out of warranty, that means your only option would be buying a replacement unit entirely.
