KDL50W829B optical out

Hi I'm looking to connect my KDL50W829B 50" TV to a home theatre amp using the optical audio out.  I'm wondering if this will output 5.1 audio and also will it work for HDMI inputs ie my virgin media STB, PC & playstation 4?

Hi there

If you can possibly use HDMI to connect to your AMP, its always advisable these days.  Many devices including your TV, supports HDMI-ARC.  ARC: Audio Return Channel.

If your AMP doesnt support this, then yes, optical is your next option.  It will output 5.1 channels to you AMP.  It will also output audio to devices connected to the TV via HDMI.
