Hey everyone, trying to figure out the easiest way to stream an MP4 file from my Mac to my Sony TV, but AirPlay works sometimes and is often glitchy. Anyone found a smooth method or app to play Mac videos directly on the TV?
It should be better if you write the model of the TV with information related to the video you want to stream (i.e. bitrate) and why you want to use airplay (i.e. it could be easier the way around letting the TV play the content via DLNA directly from your mac)
I have a Sony BRAVIA 3. You might want to try DLNA. I was just using AirPlay before and it worked, then the streaming issues started. Thanks!
I struggled with this too, but Elmedia Player on my Mac made it way easier to watch videos on my TV. Another good option is VLC.
There is also a useful article, it may help you -
The best way to watch a video from an external repository is via DLNA. Any mirroring protocol is less reliable and efficient.
In order to enable DLNA you just need to download a DLNA server on the mac (i.e. serviio that was the initial official choice from Sony itself) and than your Mac will be shown in the standard Sony media player on your TV (or any other player you are using including obviously VLC). That's it for the basic.
You may want to configure other more advanced feature later on (like converting on the fly codec that are not supported on the TV) or move to a different solution like Plex that need its own client on the TV (fully support on google tv or any other TV os) but offers more functionalities (i.e. automatic cover download , trailers, information etc.)
Thank you all for the useful information!
