Flash Player Issues

I'm sorry if this issue has been discussed before, but it's sending me mad, I can't find any solutions on the wider web, so here goes:

Many sites I visit repeatedly ask to install Adobe Flash Player, but as I am using a windows 8 Sony Laptop (not touch screen) it is already embedded in the OS, I have tried all the suggestions on the Adobe website help page,  without success, I have disabled active x, enabled Shockwave but it shows in the manage add ons as enabled but ":smileysad:unavailable", so I've downloaded Shockwave, but this still shows as unavailable, despite showing in programmes and features.

Sony suggested resetting back to factory settings????????????? whether that will help or not I don't know

So can someone please tell me where I'm going wrong

Hi GrumpyG,

Depending on your actual requirements, have you tried using an alternative web browser to access the content you're trying to view that requires Flash?

You may find that using either Firefox or Chrome might give you better results, Chrome especially as it has it's own version embedded also. Therefore you will be able to see if your problem is linked to IE10 or something else more 'general' on your laptop.

Good luck!

Hi GrumpyG,

welcome to the Sony User Community Forum..:smileyhappy:

Don't have windows 8 but do you get the same flash player issues if you try viewing the web content in Desktop mode or Start Screen mode depending on which one you are using.?

I have known some flash content to only play when viewing in desktop mode..:smileywink:

Hi Thalamus

If I start IE10 app in start mode (Metro) it goes straight to desktop, so I assume I am viewing websites in "desktop" and when I go to one of the blogs I visit regularly it warns me to install Adobe Flash Player add on, so I've gone through the whole gammut of trying to install it, I then get the message that flash player is already installed on windows 8, I then go thro all the suggestions on the Adobe website that come up, disable active X, enable shockwave add on, so I go to manage add ons, this shows Shockwave "enabled" but this also shows "not available" I 've downloaded Shockwave, and it doesn't seem to install although it shows up in programmes and features. I must be doing something wrong or missing something,

I e-mailed Sony support, but they suggested uninstalling Flash Player and re-installing it, but as you probably know I can't do this to the embedded Flash, they then suggested creating a rescue disk and restoring to factory settings, would this do the trick? I don't know

Hi norwichnick

Many thanks for taking time to respond to my problem, I have installed Chrome, and tried the website that was most annoying me, and there was no request to install the Adobe Flash add on, so it looks like your probably right in your theory.

I have used IE since my first PC so I just carried on, I'll probably take your advice and use the chrome browser from now on.

Again many thanks
