short battery life

Hi,In January I bought a new sony vaio from pc world model SVE1712Q1EW. I was told that I would get around 4 hours battery life but I have never had more than 2 hours 15 minutes out of it. This is really frustrating as I am frequently on it for longer than that which means I have to use it plugged in most of the time. Does anyone know how I can improve the battery life?

This is a common complaint and there was, at some time, detail on the support site of the running conditions under which maximum battery life is determined.

From memory this included, but was not limited to:

Screen brightness reduced.

Wireless turned off.

Bluetooth turned off.

No DVD drive use.

Power option set to maximum battery life.

Minimise aplications running in the background.

No internet use.

The above may help extend battery life but whether you will ever achieve 4 hrs is debatable.
