The fan on my Vaio was making a really loud noise so I opened it up! Took the keyboard off, took out the HDD and took off the fan!
I put some WD40 (Lubricant) on the fan to see if it would stop the noises! It was a reallly loud noise as if the fan was getting jammed!
I put it all back together and now it won't boot up!
I had a problem with the CPU in which I had to click it to the right to get it off but now I have put it back on I cannot click it back to the left to clip it in but did the best I could!
Now when I try to power it up it just seems completely dead!
I am thinking the WD40 may have dripped onto the board or something but I then tried to leave it to dry out but still no luck!
Can somebody please help?
Thanks
Nick
You have done virtually everything that you shouldn't have done. The only thing you can do yourself now is make sure that the CPU is correctly fitted and that the fan is fitted properly with a layer of heat conductive paste between it and the CPU.
I think your computer is probably a write off . . . .
Plus if you want sony to fix it you have voided your warranty.
It is way out of warranty anyway which is why I tried to fix it!
I reseated the CPU and clipped it in and held the reset button in for 10 seconds on the back and it seems to work fine
Just the noisy fan
You've been really lucky
The only thing you can do with the fan is make sure that none of the vanes are catching the frame. Whatever you do, don't put any lubricant on there.
You may be able to get a replacement fan from one of the laptop service places on the web . . . .
It does sound as if they are catching! I have tried to push it in but cannot fix this 😞
I will try and source one online but have had no luck so far 😞
You lucky bugger:smileygrin: .
Wow thats pretty lucky, make sure you do have artic paste as Rob suggested
