SPMgr.exe Vaio VGN-SR19VN runtime error

Hi there,

I run XP on my Sony Vaio notebook model no. VGN-SR19VN.

This model was first supplied with Vista but I downgraded to XP and have been running that since.

I never received the original disks when purchasing this Vaio from my previous employer.

After a serious virus which affected the registry, I had to reinstall and/or remap many programs.

I am getting the following runtime error on startup and can't seem to solve it.

"Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Program files\Sony\Vaio Power Management\SPMgr.exe

this application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

The directory C:\Program files\Sony\Vaio Power Management exists and has many SPM files in it but does not have the SPMgr.exe file and I can't find it on the internet and on sony's site.

I can find the power management for Vista/Windows 7 but when I try install that it stops halfway through and says it's incompatible with my operating system.

I can't find who/where to reach the "application's support team".

Would appreciate some help.

Hi Sonyuser2012,

Your model was provided with an XP downgrade disc.

You do probably need to reinstall Vaio Power Management but Sony do not provide downloadable individual utility programs for downgrading to XP.

They just provide an XP Downgrade Installer v4.0 that reinstalls ALL Vaio drivers and utilities.  You could try running this but it must be your decision because it will reinstall everything which may have other unknown results.  It is available under the XP Tab here: -

http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/VGN-SR19VN/updates

Alternatively, you could try reinstalling Vaio Power Management from another Vaio Model released with XP installed.  You will find it in the Preinstalled Utilities Package for several models - here is a link to the VGN-SZ3 downloads: -

http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/VGN-SZ3XRP_C/updates

Again I cannot guarantee this will work - so it must be your choice.
